WHAT’S WITH THE NAME?

Inspired by the poem “The Rose that Grew from Concrete,” by the late great Tupac Shakur, men of color have and are thriving in the advertising industry and are rising above all of the stereotypes and prejudices associated with them. For half a century, they have been rarely seen and heard from even less. Despite their disparity on all levels, they have been trailblazers, game changers, and tastemakers for an industry that is still learning how to deal with their sheer dopeness. Giants like Bill Sharp, Sheldon Levy, Jimmy Smith, Keith Cartwright and a handful of others who have been delivering cultural changing and award-winning campaigns for decades, However, with all that success, men of color are still underrepresented on all levels in advertising. Today the 100 Roses will rise and show the world their greatness and live out legacies of those that came before them just like the rose that grew from concrete.
